  1. Yup, you need a passport. That's all she needs unless the specific country you are visiting requires a visa.

  2. All children regardless of age (including newborns and infants) must have their own passport.

For Minors under Age 16 you must establish proof of citizenship AND proof of relationship.  Previous U.S. passports are not acceptable as proof of relationship to the applying parent(s)/guardian(s).  See number 3 below for proof of relationship.

All documents submitted with the application as evidence of U.S. citizenship will be returned with the issued passport.  See Processing Times.

For proof of citizenship, you will need to submit one of the following:

Certified U.S. birth certificate ; or

Previous fully valid U.S. Passport; or

Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240); or

Certification of Birth Abroad (Form DS-1350); or

Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization from USCIS.

NOTE: A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, Impressed or multicolored seal, registrar's signature, and the Date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth

A Delayed Birth Certificate filed more than one year after your birth may be acceptable if it:

Listed the documentation used to create it and

Signed by the attending physician or midwife, or, lists an affidavit signed by the parents, or shows early public records.

If you do NOT have a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate, you will need :

    Letter of No Record

Issued by the state with your name, date of birth, which years were searched for a birth record and that there is no birth certificate on file for you.

AND as many of the following as possible:

    Baptismal certificate

    Hospital birth certificate

    Census record

    Early school record

    Family bible record

    Doctor's record of post-natal care

    From Official US goverment website

  3. besides the passport, you also need a letter from the mom saying she accepts that you're taking the child out... unless you have full custody.

  4. She needs a passport. They're usually around $60 and around here you can get them at the post office :B

  5. I think that she just needs a passport

  6. they probably need a passport.

  7. If you are going out of the US, say to Mexico or Canada, they might not check but on the way in they will. She does need a passport.

  8. If you don't have a passport, you are required to show proof the child is yours ( a birth certificate is usually acceptable if you are travelling from the US to Canada and vice versa) . If you are travelling alone with her, you will need written consent of the other parent to be able to cross the border.

This was valid in the summer of 2007, laws may have changed since. One thing is for certain, if you are alone with the child, you MUST have signed documents from the other parent.

  9. She needs a passport for sure. Whether or not she needs a visa depends on which country you are going to.

  10. Every US Citizen, no matter the age is required to have a passport and sometimes a visa to travel to certain locations.

Take a look at the US Dept of State website (linked) for requirements from all destinations, for different length of stays.

  11. Not only do they require a passport and possible visa, but they also REQUIRE a paid ticket that must be purchased at the same time as the adult! The infant fare will be 10% of the adult's ticket. If you fail to buy it at the same time you purchase yours, you could find yourself buying the infant ticket at 10% of the CURRENT adult fare at the airport! Check with the airline you're traveling on.

The infant will still be a lap child but with the 10% paid ticket, the infant is allowed 1 small checked bag. Again, check with the airline you're traveling on.

  12. She should be listed on your passport as a minor child.

Take her birth certificate with you.
