I am wondering if my company potentially has the ability to monitor my personal PDA/Phone use (data/calls) if I am using their private locally installed Wi-Fi Network or cell tower controlled by the IT department? What about it I don't use Wi-Fi for data but instead use my verizon or Att phone network? If the new iPhone automatically picks up and uses a local wi-fi network can they see what I am doing?

  1. Well, lets review how wifi or any network works.. You connect to an access point or an ethernet plug that is connected to a local network which is then connected to the internet. Since all data has to pass through that network yes it can be monitored.  Whether your company has monitoring in place or not is a different issue entirely. You might want to check the companies privacy policy and personnel policies. Many / most these days do reserve the right to monitor all network traffic. It is the companies network after all is said and done!)

  2. If you connected their local area connction then they will know everything its like normal pc that connected to the corporate.

Then try not to be paranpoid and be vigilant.
