I am going to a school 30 minutes away, so I need bused to go there.

My mom has tried contacting our school district's bus company since July(its the end of August) and they won't answer phone calls or give us any information.

Well I am starting school tomorrow and I don't have a BUS!

As I said, no word from the bus company. My mom even tried going up to the company's office and no one supplied information.

Do we have th right to sue the bus company?

  1. You can sue anybody you like.   It will cost you money, though, and it will depend on the bus company's contract with the school district.   Why not start by talking to your school authorities about this?

  2. Is this the closest school to you?  Have you contacted the school district (rather than the bus company)?  Is there a city bus or alternate transportation you could take if necessary to get to school?

You can sue for anything you want.  However, unless your city/state/school bylaws state they are required to provide transportation for you, you won't win.

  3. It's up to the school district as to who gets bus service and who doesn't, and a lot of school districts are doing away with bus service altogether because of the high costs.  She needs to contact your school district, not the bus company.

  4. In America you can sue anybody for anything it's just a matter of winning. Better results could probably be reached through your school board. Where I grew up the distance limit was 3 miles. That's about 45 Min's walking time. Could be that you're gonna burn some calories.

  5. You may sue any person/company for any reason.  However, you better have the money and physical proof, and damages.

To me, 30 mins. away seems pretty far for the bus to come pick you up.  Maybe the bus does not go out to your location?  After the few attempts, your mother should have contacted the school for a resolution.

Plus, the bus company does not have a contract with you nor your mother.  So, why sue?  It depends on the contract the bus company has with the school.  Your school should be the one to answer all of your mother's questions.

  6. Of course she has the right to sue.  Every person has the right to sue.  But that is not the central issue here.

Why is she continuing to try to get information from the bus company?  Why isn't she contacting the school for assistance in getting transportation?

A lawsuit can take weeks or months.  You need a solution now.

  7. the bus company definately cannot be sued.  They have no contract with you.

The school cannot be sued as they are under no obligation to provide you a bus.

Move  closer,  ride your bike, have mom take you.

  8. Sue for what??? It is not the bus co's responsibility to find out what bus you ride. You do not give enough details to give a good answer. In my state the school board IS responsible for getting you to and from school. It is YOUR responsibility to find out which bus to ride. If you really want to know got to the school and find out on prep day like we do.

  9. As all have pointed out, you can sue anyone, winning is another thing.  An essential part of reimbursement is part is showing damages. It would be difficult to show damages for someone not returning a phone call.  Lots of times bus schedules are on the school website or printed in the newspaper.

The bus company can't realistically be expected to speak with every parent regarding this information.
