Does my family qualify as low income?

Theres 5 people, 2 under age 18, both parents working, and a senior.

Yearly income is 56k. Does that qualify as low income?

  1. Check the websites for your city, county, and state to see what their definitions of low income are, because the benefits they provide are based on their specific definitions.


  2. Under Federal guidelines, NO.  But states and cities have their own definitions, specially for dispensing state benefits.

  3. Not by federal guidelines.  I don't know anything specific about California, but probably not.  I've worked in a university financial aid office before and I've seen low-income families' tax returns.  One was a family of 8 with a yearly income of $12,000.  That's under the poverty level but you're rich compared to them.
