Does my goldfish have ammonia burns?

Okay so everyone says when your goldfish get black on their fins and body its a sign of healing from ammonia burns.

Yeah so my fish (Henry), (I've had 2 for about a month) has black on his fins and recentley he started developping it on his body too. And around his eyes and mouth!

Today I noticed the 2nd fish (Anne-Boleyn) was showing faint blackness on the body so I took out her out and put her in another bowl. And also I changed the water again in the first tank.

Then, after I changed it I noticed my first fish Henry was floating on his side at the top! I thought he died and freaked out. Then I splashed the water a little on him and he righted himself again...hmmm and he kept doing that.

Here's some pictures, I don't know what you can see from them but hopefully they'll help...

Please help, I'm so scared for my poor little fish!!

  1. Ammonia burns are classified by red marks on the skin of the Goldfish. It doesn't seem that any of your Goldfish have red marks on them, it just looks like black spots, which are perfectly normal.

But you do have to upgrade your tank VERY soon. Your Goldfish are Common Goldfish, which means that they can grow up to a foot and a half long, such as in these pictures:http://cellar.org/2002/recordgoldfish.jp...

2 Common Goldfish should belong in a 75+ gallon tank with a canister filter. They p**p alot, so they cannot be kept in small bowls or small tanks. Read this article on Goldfish in bowls: http://www.epinions.com/content_31856149...

    Sorry to hear it........

It may be this....black smudge or spot disease

If it's a smudge I think you treat it differently than a spot so make as sure as you can.

    This should help you out.

I would try Jungle labs tank buddies parasite clear for spots as its a fluke infestation.

Very easy to use (plop it in), effective and doesn't stress fish.

A smudge just seems to be lots of water changes to cure. hmmmmm at least it's cheap.

Another thing...most fish really hate water changes that are more than 30% at anytime. An established and aged water column makes the fish feel comfortable. When you do 50% plus water changes it really unnerves most fish not giving them stress free environment they need.

You can do water changes daily just not more 25% unless you think its nessacary. But putting a fish into a fresh bowl of water may seem nice but it really isn't.

good luck!!! I hope everyone pulls threw

  3. he is very sick you must give him a bigger tank water conditioner tap water cleanser that bubbly thing and change the gravel every so 2

    months

  4. how often do you change your water?  what kind of filter are you using.  Just add rocksalt and good aeration for conditioning when its active again return him to his home and do partial water changes of 10 percent daily or 20 to 30 weekly.
