  1. you need a filter not an air pump

    kOi keeper & goldfish keeper.

  2. Yes, to airate the H20. You could keep changing the water, but water changes stress the fish, so you only want to change 1/3 the water at a time (this is the recomendation for fish ponds, since you can more closely control the H2O temp with aquariums, it's probably more than 2/3), without a pump, you'd have to keep changing the water to keep it airated.

The picture above, are you sure its not bloated from over- eating, orandas are known for that.

  3. It needs a bigger tank is what it needs. As long as you have filtration, which you should, you don't need an air pump. Water is airated with H2O by aggition of the water. Which is done by the filter. Ever seen a pond with an air pump? i think not.

  4. airstones don't actually aerate the tank, the filter does. so technically no.

however, your tan is WAY too small and is a death trap for him, either return the goldfish, get a heater and a betta or return the tank and get AT LEAST (as seen above some believe more) a 10gallon tank.

  5. Your Goldfish needs a 20+ gallon tank. Goldfish grow up to a foot long (longer if they're Comet Goldfish), and if they're placed in smaller tanks they'll get stunted. Stunted means their bodies stop growing but their organs don't. Check out this picture: http://cellar.org/2002/recordgoldfish.jp...

Plus you'll need a filter, since they are big poopers. Air pumps are optional, since filters already provide some oxygen.
