Does my husband have any link to my credit?

My husband has bad credit because of come upaid cell phone bills. We do not share the same surname but we stay at the same residence. Are our credit scores linked somehow?

  1. credit is based on social security....just dont cosign  


  2. NEVER let him use your credit card.  If you are careful to keep everything separate, you should be fine.  Of course, the sooner he clears up these bills, the better.

  3. Anything before you are married remains on your individual report. Anything acquired after wards will be joint.

  4. Credit reports and subsequent scores are individual and are not linkable. Even if you have joint accounts, the accounts will show up as a jointly held account, but you will still maintain your individual scores and reports.

    How well you maintain any JOINT accounts will either positively or negatively affect your individual credit.


  5. Your individual credit scores remain the same and are not combined upon marriage.  However your ability to get a loan together (such as a mortgage) will be decreased based on his score.
