Does my husband quaify for a british passport?

I'm an Australian, and have been approved for a british passport, as my mother was born in the UK, but now resides in Australia. What we're now wondering is if my husband (who has no immediate british family) can also apply for a british passport. Does anyone know? Thank you

You may be able to put him on your passport;

check with the British Embassy or Consulate in Australia.

But to get his own, you'd have to live in the UK.

That would depend on if you are inheriting citizenship with that passport.  If you applied for some level of citzenship, such as National status to maintain dual citzenship, or even full citzenship then I would think, now that you are approved, your husband can apply citing you as his family.

If you just got a passport (visa) to go there then no.

At present holders of the following forms of British nationality can apply for a British passport:

British citizens (GBR)

British Overseas Territories citizens (formerly British Dependent Territories citizens) (GBD)

British Overseas citizens (GBO)

British Subjects (GBS)

British Protected Persons (GBP)

British Nationals (Overseas) (GBN)

No, he can't yet. If you want to live in Britain he will have to apply for a spouse visa. He will then be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain before being eligible to apply for a passport.

But the guidelines are always changing and it will depend how long you have been married. So it's best to check:

I'm not really certain about it in the UK.. But in most countries, close family, by blood or by legal rlships like marriage, you can get passports/citizenships.
