I was on the internet, and something popped up and said Powerscan Anti virus 2009 will scan your computer because it is running slower then usual. I exited the web browser without downloading it. How can I check if my mac really does have a virus?

  1. turn off the internet for 2 hours ( go offline )

check if the popup pops up without any internet connection

    if it does

    then it is a virus

    if not

    then its a popup

  2. Its just a popup dude, your fine.. They do that to scare you into downloading their stuff.. Even if you did download it, it wouldnt work because it was for windows.. Thing to take note, Macs don't get viruses nearly as often as Windows.. Ive ahd a mac for 5 years, and have not once had a virus. Owned a windows for one year, got like 5 or 6 viruses.

  3. MAC should be usually free of viruses.

Do you have Powerscan Antivirus installed in your MAC ? If not , if it was a web pop-up suggestion by the site you have visited...dont bother at all.. its a marketing gimmick trying to have you hit the panic button.

Only if  you have Powerscan installed in the MAC...go for a virus scan..otherwise..no big deal.

If you are still worried about it...try Kaspersky MAC version 30 day free trial and check your MAC for viruses... I dont think there will be a need for this though !!

    Good Luck !
