Does my mom have a reason to freak out? ?

So I just made my high school dance team, and on Friday after practice we're going to a water park close by for the day, and afterwards we're going to Hooters. I thought it was kinda weird, but I thought whatever they probably have good food. And it was optional, but the upperclassmen are driving us there, so if you don't wanna eat there that part isn't an option. When I told my mom though, she freaked out about how deragotory that is and I don't think it's the big of a deal. Do you?

  1. I can see why she's freaking out - she wants you to be an intelligent, strong woman.  Not some bimbo eye-candy getting beer spilled on her by frat dudes.  She's probably afraid that being exposed to that will make you think it's ok or desirable.

But I see your side too - just because you're eating there doesn't mean you're going to turn in an application!

It might help if you discuss some of your long-term goals with your mom.  Talk to her about college, what your interests are, and discuss possible career choices.  This will do two things - it will reassure her that you have some good goals in life and that you want more from your life than to be some sexual outlet for random men.  It will also help you discover where your interests lie.  I know it sounds lame, but I wish I would have started at least thinking about it and discovering my passions when I was in high school.  I thought it could wait indefinitely, and got all the way into my Master's program before I realized that I hadn't really thought that much about what career would make me happy - I just kind of went with the flow.  It's never too soon to start thinking, and it's not like you have to have a final decision :-)

    Good luck!

  2. Heck no! I went to Hooters for my 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th birthday!! I love hooters and it's way fun. My mom thinks it's a little weird but she just chuckles and goes along with it.

Chicken wings are the ****. Just tell your mom it really is a family environment. They have a kids menu!

  3. i've personally never been to one... but my grandparents live with my aunt and her two little girls and they all live downt the street from a hooters and they go every now and then but idk...

  4. She probably thinks you're aspiring to be a Hooters waitress, which is why she's freaking out.  Stay off the pole, young lady.

  5. Uh, whoever is talking a bunch of under-age girls to a place where the sole purpose is staring at women's b*****s, then there is something wrong.

The girls should all get together and suggest a more appropriate place to eat.

If it's a school thing, then presumably there's a school person in charge or with authority. Go to them. If they don't listen, go to the principal with your complaint.

Surely there's some place near by that serves food and drink that's not in business just for guys to stare at women's b*****s.

If the principal refuses to listen to reason, arrange other transportation.

  6. well, that IS a little extreme to go to hooters...Shows you who the role models are for high school dance teams now huh?

I can see why she would be upset, no mom WANTS her daughter anywhere NEAR hooters...is this a school thing? does the school know you are going to hooters?

just assure your mother that you will succeed in life and never grow up and work at hooters :P

    wow, times have changed...

  7. The overall concept of Hooters sounds worse than it really is. When you go inside all it is a restaurants with girls wearing small shorts and tight shirts. The food is pretty good. I think your mom is just concerned that not only are you going to Hooters but you're also going to be hanging out with upperclassman. She also may be uncomfortablew with them driving you since teens are not usually the best drivers.
