Ok well I just got my license and I'm going to be driving my mom's car for awhile until I get my own but my dad said I have to get my name put on the insurance. Is this true? How was I able to drive the car to take the test if it is illegal and how do people borrow people's cars all the time? Are they doing something illegal? Thanks for reading this! =)

  1. Your name will have to be added to their policy and it will make their insurance rates go way way up.

  2. You will be insured without your name being on the insurance.  As soon as the insurance company learn you are driving the insurance rates will increase.

  3. Yes, you need to be listed on the insurance policy, once you have a license.

While you have a permit, most companies do NOT require you to be listed on the policy yet.

You could borrow my car, and be covered - because you aren't my household member.  It's household members that have to be listed on the policy, because, well, you're not going to borrow my car very often!  But likely you'll be driving a household car, several times a week.
