Does my pit bull pups have mange? they are 4 1/2 months and black but all of sudden the black dogs have hair ?

loss around there eyes. but don't seen to show symptoms of mange.

if not mange then what could be the cause for hair loss around the eyes! Again they are all black! Thanxs U For ur much appreciated help!

You might want to call your VET and describe your dogs symptoms. There is a good chance that it could be the following...

DEMODECTIC MANGE (or know as DEMODEX) -Caused by microscopic mites. Two different mange mites cause skin disease in dogs. One lives under surface of skin and the other one resides in hair follicles.

DEMODECTIC OR DEMODEX MANGE  is hair loss around eyes and parts of the body.

SARLOPTIC (MANGE) -the dog is very very itchy and crusty ear margins.

When a young dog from 12-18 mths old has an immature immune system, the mites grow rapidly. As the dog matures, so will the immune system. If an adult dog has this they usually have defective immune systems.

Call the vet and describe the dogs symptoms. Make an appointment if need be so vet can examine your dog.

I have a dog who started losing spots of hair in different places on her body.  I thought she had mange so I took her to the vet and they said that she was allergic to fleas.  They gave her a steroid shot and gave her some antihistamine medication and some new flea medication.  Her hair started growing back within a couple of weeks!  That may be it.  Do you apply flea medication to your dog?

It could indeed be demodex mites. Take her to the vet for a skin scraping. This type of mite usually begins to show around the face first, and its a mite that all puppies have, but some do not fight it off and keep it controlled the way they should, its about the immune system. Get on it early and it should not be much of a problem if it is that.
