Hii. I have two dumbo rats and i think boths of them have breathing problems. They both make funny owl like noises when they are breathing it sounds like they have got a blocked nose?! :S And one of myy rats keep sneezing.. every 5 minutes or so . I use woodbased cat litter :S. I don't know whether thats it or not because my other rats not affected.

  1. They probablys just have a cold or flu.or something like that..if it does get much worse i would take them to the vet.

    Hope this Helped =D !

  2. its the cat litter

  3. Sounds to me like they do have a respitory infection. You need to get them to the vet for an antibiotic. I use carefresh bedding for my rats and have no problems. Two other good beddings are Yesterdays News and Soft Sorbent. Good luck.

  4. Try changing the litter to a less dusty bedding. Yesterday's News is paper based as well as Carefresh. Make sure your rats aren't in a drafty place at all. The could have a upper respiratory infection, or the cat litter might be bothering their noses.

  5. first off change the wood cat litter its bad for there breathing. then you should take them to the vets just to be sure some rats are more sensitive to wood than others so that will be why your other rats are fine. but you should still keep a eye on them. you can still use a type of cat litter i used bob martins 100% dust free cat litter

  6. Take them to the vet! It sounds like it could be a respiratory infection and i know (unfortunately) from experience how quickly that can kill!

Yes, and change the bedding, carefresh is my favorite but you can also use aspen shavings, or yesterday's news.

    good luck!

  7. if it as come about since you used the wood litter then it could be dust. If not they could have a respiratory infection that needs treatment.

Make sure they are in a well ventilated but mild-warm enclosure (do not use fish tanks) and I would be taking them to the vet for antibiotics. Rats commonly die from respiratory infections better to have them checked before it turns to pneumonia.
