This may be silly, but I'm confused. Let's say I pay rent on the first of the month. Does this cover the previous month or the month just starting? I'm so confused.

  1. Simple way to remember: You pay and then you stay.

The rent you pay on the first is for that month.

  2. The month starting.

  3. In most casrs you pay for the month that is ahead of you

  4. Renting you pay the month ahead, in Mortgage you pay the month before

  5. Basically you pay your rent in advance.  In August 1st you pay the rent for August.  The deposit is first month, last month and deposit so your first month is already covered and when you get ready to move again your as soon as you let your landlord know that will be the last month, and in order to get the deposit back you should leave the apartment spotless.

  6. Rent is paid on first for the current month, in advance.  Pay August 1 for August.
