Question:

Does my washing machine have a short in it?

I have a Roper (made by Whirlpool) that I purchased brand new in October of 2007. Recently I have noticed that when I touch the machine I get a slight shock, so I don't keep it plugged in unless I am using it. Today I unplugged the machine and it gave me a little shock. Does the machine have a short or is it the outlet?

  1. There is something going on. Voltage is somehow getting to the frame of the machine.  You need to get the thing grounded which is automatically done if you have a three prong plug which is correctly installed (and the receptacle is also properly wired).  Best thing for you to to probably is to connect a wire from a metal part of the machine to a metal water pipe or other good ground.  The shocking will go away.
