Question:

Does my wedding cake have to be same colors and flower design as my flowers.?

For my wedding flowers I am having white roses, blue delphinium, pink spray roses and possibly black eyed susans. The cake design I chose is just a round 2 teired (only 60 guests) white cake with blue rose buttercream flowers around the cake and on top of the cake as a cake topper. I didn't want to use pink, just blue and white. But the flower design is not exact (blue buttercream icing roses). In my bouquet there will be white roses and blue delphinium. I have been wondering if the type of flower has to match exactly and the blue color may not match perfectly. I don't want fresh flowers on my cake either. This may seem like a really silly detail to obsess over but I want it to look nice. Am I turning into bridezilla or what!!!! Any opinions would be welcome.

  1. it is your day you are allowed to have anything your heart desires.whatever makes you happy.

  2. The cake you chose will be perfect.  Don't worry about exactly matching your bouquet.  It's your wedding, do what YOU want.

  3. First of all, no, you are not a bridezilla.  I watch the show (it's my Sunday night amusement) and until you start stomping around here and throwing out the f-bombs, you are not a bridezilla!

First, as question or two.  Are you set on blue roses?  Is your cake decorator talented enough to do something more than roses?

I think it is great that you have chosen one of the colors.  I was recently to a wedding where they had all the floral colors on the cake.  It was just too busy and did not look good.  Perhaps if the shades had been the same as the flower itself, but instead they were as bright as you could get and gawdy. (Red, Pink, Orange, Yellow)

If your decorator can do it, would it be possible to have the cake decorated with sprays of buttercream delphiniums?  I have a picture of what that would look like in my mind, but the closest I could find would be similar to this picture:

(Imaging Delphinium sprays instead of the flowers shown.)

I think the only difference in doing something like those included above is that they use a rolled sugar fondant instead of buttercream because it gives it more stability.

Either way, do what you want!  It is your wedding, you only get to do it once, and you are the one that will regret it if it isn't done your way!

    Good luck and Congrats!  :-)

  4. It sounds lovely! There are not rules about this and even if there were I'd say do it your way. If you are not sure think about having white roses on the cake (frosting not real) and then just having fresh, real blue delphiniums surrounding the base..not on the cake.

  5. you get what you ask for on your cake and you better enjoy it damit
