I lived in Africa for 20+ years, never experienced an earthquake, tornadoes, hurricanes or snow storms. The only disaster you see in Africa are all man-made disasters, such as famine and droughts not because of lack of rain but lack of irrigation systems and their governments don't provide it and they can afford it.

Why do you think natural disasters never happens in the continent of Africa.

  1. I would call a lack of snow a natural disaster, but then I enjoy skiing and winter sports.

Wasn't there a release of hydrogen sulphide gas from Lake Tanganika, or something like that?  It killed an entire village 5-10 years ago.

  2. the migration of the english men years and years ago, totally screwed africa up lol

  3. Droughts are also considered a natural disaster right? Droughts in Ethiopia, Sudan, Mozambique, Niger have killed hundreds of thousands of people. Then there is AIDS and Malaria (and many other diseases), which can also be classified as natural.

Flooding has also caused deaths in some African countries (mostly tropical and sub-tropical countries), but on a lesser scale (eg. Laingsburg, South Africa, 1981)

  4. Twenty years is but a second on the geological clock. Most recently droughts have caused problems growing enough food for the population. I understand that political, ethnic, and religious issues pose a much greater risk to Africa's population but i wouldn't imagine it is immune to natural disasters. The problems around the world are caused by mans desire to live by the life giving water.Or overcrowded populations coupled with poor building practices. Remember it is not the government's job to take care of you . You have to rely on someone with your best interest in mind.

  5. they aren't on major fault lines or in major wind patterns.
