Yes it does stink in certain places, however N.J. is a very industrious place which is great for America.  It is also very nice in most places.  I have had and still have relatives in southern and northern N.J.

There are lots of paper mills that make it smell horrible. Trust me. I know.

IT'S CALLED INDUSTRY!!!! HEL-LOO!  Now how can a whole state smell horrible?  There are refineries in some parts of North and South Jersey if you are on the Turnpike, heading towards Elizabeth, Newark, Jersey City and Camden to the south but that's to be expected.  Go a little west, then north or south away from the Turnpike, and you will find it doesn't smell. Only the smell of sizzling grills of burgers, dogs and Italian sausages. Let's not forget about the bakeries that just make you dizzy, TALK ABOUT SMELL- YUMMMM. Those smells will add pounds and inches to you, but its worth it.  Keep going west and you'll find out why NJ is called the Garden State. Go north to our mountains and see scenery that you'll never see anywhere else.  NJ borders Southern New York State and Pennsylvania. At Hight Point, the highest point in NJ, you can see the Poconos and the Catskills Mountains.  We cannot forget our malls and outlet malls. Check out the food courts (more smells)and no tax on clothes, and or groceries.  Take it from this Jersey Girl (yes, I still have my big hair) even though I'm living in NC at the moment (not my decision), NJ smells for a reason!

the part in between the airport in newark and nyc and newark and penn. does smell bad but the rest is beautiful....a lot is suburbs but we have great forests and such.....some parts are bad but you shouldn't assume all of it is.
