Does no plumbing = foster care?

Question

Our well went bad and we have to use a chemical toilet, because we can’t afford a new well yet. We basically have no plumbing. My son is in headstart (space just became available) and they have to do a home-visit, first. I’m really scared of this. I’m scared they’ll take him if they find out we live like this. Am I being paranoid? I really want what’s best for him, which is why I want him in headstart, but I can’t afford anything better housing-wise.

I’m in Michigan if that makes a difference.

I would thiink since you are working on it, they will give you some concessions here.  Be honest and tell them you are doing the best that you can.  Headstart doesn't take children away, they may report this to Job and Family Services and they don't take children away lightly.  Just keep doing the best that you can and keep wanting the best for your little boy.

If he is temporarily placed in a foster home while you get your facilities fixed, you will surely get him back as soon as the job is done - good luck.

I've been in several homes without useable plumbing.  Allow Headstart staff and see if they have any suggestion for funds.  They may know just the thing.

Headstart admission is based on low income status and they have seen far worse than half-working plumbing.  Trust me, if you are loving, decent mom they will help if they can.  No one wants to see a good family torn apart.

Go to www.freecycle.com and search Michigan ...they have over 130 different subsections (based on location) where people post items they are giving away for free.

You might be able to find a toilet or even request one.

You sign up for a user name - no cost and then you get posts about free things either in your email or you can log on and look daily.  I use it in my area in Colorado, and my sister in Michigan uses it and gets amazing stuff for free!!
