  1. the novacaine itself doesn't hurt at all, but it is an injection, so some people are sensitive to the needle.

before you get the shot though, you will get a topical anesthetic spread on your gums where the shot will go.

it is a gel material, like yucky tasting toothpaste i guess.

it is just put on in a small area (smaller than a dime size) with a cotton swab, and then it numbs that area so that the needle won't hurt you.

the nerves from waiting to get the shot hurt a lot more than the shot itself hurts!

i am such a wimp when it comes to needles!

chances are that your dentist has given thousands upon thousands of these same exact shots, so don't worry about their ability to perform.

sometimes it helps me to distract myself until it's over.

i do best if i don't see the syringe, so i close my eyes when i know any type of instrument is coming near my mouth!

just remember to breathe if you are really nervous.

i have had plenty of fillings done, by 3 different dentists, they have all been just about the same.

it doesn't take long to do, it isn't painful, a 3 second pinch at the very most.

keep something in your hand that you can squeeze to help with the nerves.

    good luck!

  2. The actual injection can hurt a little bit, but once the stuff starts to take effect there's only numbness and no pain.  The numbness will last for a few hours, and during that time it will feel like your lip is the size of a car tire.  Don't bite on this area because you won't feel it and you could wind up with an infection if you cause a wound.

  3. No. Novocaine makes you numb, it doesn't hurt.

Many cavities can be filled without Novocaine or drills now, too.

  4. Novocaine numbs, not hurts.

  5. No the shot hurts not that it numbs it so you dont feel pain.

  6. Oh trust me you are worrying about nothing.  I just got my first cavity filled.  I was sooooooo scared about getting the shot of novacaine after my traumatic experience with getting my wisdom teeth pulled.  Well, when I got the "shot" for my cavity I didn't even feel it.  The whole process was painless and my mouth felt a lot better afterwards.

  7. it feels like a pinch, but yeah it kinda hurted to me not really
