I have just submitted my ITR for this year in the Noida sec 20 office. The clerk there asked me to attach the original form 16. I have done so but am a little confused. Was this needed? Should I have refused this? Can You please advise?

  1. Definitely there is no need to submit Original Form16 while filing the returns.

In your case (Offline) it is advisable to Give a copy of Form16 not in original form.

If you have the Acknowledgment number, visit the office again and insist for your original by hand over them a copy.

If it doesn't work, if you have a copy of that keep it safe. You may require it for future reference.

  2. Your tax return must be submitted without any attachments. It is cleared mentioned in the instructions. You return can be return back if there are attachments.

  3. Technically now a days it is not needed to attache any paper. If you read the instruction carefully you will find that there is specifcally written that no paper should be attached. They have even used the words like" the reciving officer is advised not to accept any paper other then the form and detach all the attachment and return at the time of filling the return. Still in some offices they are insisting.

It does not make any harm even if you have attached the same.

    Be in peace.

  4. The Finance minister has one thing in mind but the local IT depts. have something else.

For all these years we have been attaching original Form 16, except last year. Now if they are asking again what difference does it make?
