Question:

Does one size really fit all?

Women how much trouble do you have finding clothes that fit you? Do you have more trouble finding pants or shirts?

From my personal experience when it comes to females, it is near impossible to find a pair of pants that fit you the way you'd like. Everything comes in distinct and specific sizes and there is no room for 1/2 sizes or differing widths/lengths.

Maybe this is a "grass is always greener" scenario but it seems like guys have it easier when it comes to clothing. They find their length and width and can buy almost any brand of jeans and have them fit.

Women however have to pick up multiple pairs of jeans in multiple sizes and then spend 4830983 hours trying them on and STILL half the time you can't find a pair that fits.

So why is this? Why are women's clothes made in this impossible way? Many will say it's because men are making the clothes but is that really the problem? I mean men make men's clothing as well.

  1. For best results, buy a size that fits you only.

  2. I think it's just that women seem to have more specific definitions about what "fits" and what doesn't, and how their clothes should "fit" to compliment their body shape. Men generally don't want their clothes to be too tight and restrict mobility and comfort, but that's about it.

I really don't have much difficulty finding clothes. I strongly suspect that there exists a connection between the difficulty of finding clothes that fit and an obsession with shopping and fashion.

Also, most women don't tend to view it as a "problem", but rather just another reason to spend more time shopping.

  3. It is almost impossible for me to find pants that are small enough and yet long enough.  It seems that no one who wears my size is allowed to be as tall as me.  If I have to buy pants by size, and not by length and width, I immediately take them home, let out the hem, sew a bit of lace on the end to lengthen them and then and re-hem them.

Did you know that men's pants come unhemmed and even in the cheaper stores they have a tailor on hand to measure the pants on the man and then they are hemmed for free.  I tried to get the men's dept. to fix my pants one time and they refused.

I think that the situation exists because women put up with it.  Squeaky wheel and all that.  I now buy my clothes over the Internet from a catalog that offers different lengths for pants.  However, my pants length is 33 in.  not 32 or 34, so my pants are always too long or too short, unless I do it myself.

Also, men's clothiers descended from tailors.  Women used to make their own clothes or get them from designers.  Ready to wear developed for women's clothing, while menswear shops were still based on tailors.  That may also explain it.

  4. It's nearly impossible for one size to fit all. Male or female, people come in all different sizes. It's just cheaper and easier for manufacturers to make things as much the same as possible and promote them as suitable for everyone.

It turns out that I have a difficult time finding shirts that fit. My arms are an inch longer than extra-large, but I'm not large enough to wear 2X or 3x sizes. That usually means a very limited selection. It's also a problem that one company's 38-32 is different from another's. Many of us have problems finding clothes that fit right.

  5. Have a fair bit of trouble finding clothes that fit because I take 1/2 sizes.  If I take the size below, it's too tight, but the size above is too loose and often have to wear a belt or will have my jeans/slacks begin to fall down.

They're always too long too, they must make jeans/slacks over here in Oz for models who are 6 foot tall because there's a bunch of material at the bottom and I have to take jeans up by around half a foot.

Shirts are slightly better, but I have to get a pretty large size so they're not tight over my chest/can do buttons up.

Have alot of trouble with bikinis too.  Am a different size top/bottom and it wasn't until only recently that stores begun to sell separates.

  6. Yes, I hate how the sizes in womens' clothing are organized! If I buy a pair of pants, I don't know, size 2, they would probably be too long on me. But if I buy size 1, they'd be too short! (These aren't my actual sizes. I'm just using these as an example.) People that make clothes should make it so that it's organized in width and length. Like, size 3-Short or 1-Long. Not JUST size 3 or 1.

  7. i have skinny legs and a big bum. i look weird.

p.s. dsds if you're reading this i still look better than you bi*ch!

ur still my brother though aiight.

  8. My husband has a hard time finding pants. He is 6ft4 and he can never find pants long enough. He wears a 38-36 but most of the time the longest you can get in a 38 waist is 32 length. With mens jeans your either short and fat or tall and skinny...LOL. He isent fat, just a really big guy. He also can never find long sleeve shirts with long enough arms unless he shops at the big and tall store which is super $$$. For me, I can never find jeans the right length either. I am too tall for petites and too short for regular length. Most of the time I have to have them hemed to the right length. Shirts are a problem too. If I get the right size to fit my chest they are too big everywhere else. So I never buy button up shirts or tops with no stretch. I am really short (5ft) so most shirts are too long no matter what kind they are.

  9. oh d**n and i thought we were talking about something else fitting

  10. i cannot ever buy a set of something because my tops and bottoms are totally different, i take a 14 in pants and an extra large in tops

  11. I am concerned about my fashion. Why? Because it is natural for me, like many men.

I have trouble finding good clothing that are comfortable and fashionable!

Look at all the guy clothing out there. It's so expensive. Either that or horridly ugly/gangasta.

  12. It's hard, because I sometimes have to go for bigger sizes because my butt/hips are curvy while my waist is small.  I wear a belt to tighten up my pants. If I buy jeans that fit my waist, it won't fit my hips/butt.

That's why I think clothing size is BS...A woman's pant size doesn't tell you everything about her body.

Shirts can be hard too, because a lot of smaller sized shirts are made for small-chested women. What if you're a busty slim woman?  It's hard finding shirts to fit.

  13. Speaking for men, finding pants is the worst, especially if you are shorter than average.  Most pants are made for men who are 5'10" and up, but there are plenty of guys who are shorter.

Also, men's pants usually have a large rise - they assume all men have big fat butts, when most probably have normal sized butts (or smaller buts, especially if they exercise).

some people say "just hem the pants" but they never end up looking as good as they did off the rack (especially since most pants taper downward, even "straight leg" are slightly tapered).  Also, hemmed jeans look horrible.

Suits can be a pain too, but now designers are finally getting a clue and allowing people to buy the sport coat and matching slack separately, like women can (it wasn't always like this - you couldn't switch the pants - you just had to have them taken out and hope there was enough fabric).

Also, guys clothes tend to be a lot uglier (tailoring, color, etc).  I look at North Face and REI stuff for gals, and then I look at the equivalent stuff for guys and it just sucks a-s-s.  Just because guys are not g*y or metrosexual doesn't mean they don't want a nice set of duds!!!!

So even though girls may have it harder, it's not as easy as it seems for guys.

  14. I have my problems. I'm tall so shirts are often too short for me. I also have fairly slim hips and thighs but a thick waist so it's hard to find pants that fit that also don't cut in at the waist. I get around that by getting pants that are low risers. The biggest problem is with shoes. I wear larger than a size 10 so the selection is very limited for me and for some reason, shoe manufacturers think that women with large feet are also fat. Many shoes in larger sizes are way too wide for me.

  15. Not on this woman. I have the most trouble finding blouses in my size that aren't too snug around the chest area. I have to go a size higher and then the blouses are too loose in other places. I usually have to try on 2 dozen shirts to find the one that fits properly.

With pants, my problem is that I'm not short enough for petite but regular is too long. So I end up having to have pants tailored.
