  1. When a person starts to study a martial art sometimes they notice a sleight increase in height.  Usually this is because posture improves and people actually stand up straighter.  This is due to the strengthening of the muscles of the back the sides and the stomach.

    Hope this helps.

  2. If you mean actually growing in height then no, not unless you havn't finished growing.

I have to agree with amorth to an extent. I do not think it is just the muscles being strengthend that are all that is involved though. When you train a martial art it is all about balance. You can't be leaning forward or slouching and have good balance. I also think that as you study and become more confident in yourself, your posture changes and your shoulders are now pulled back instead of rounded, so this may be perceived as an increase in heighth.

  3. depending on your age and the system you  are in..

Many girls that IHave met in Taiwan and other Asian areas who did Tae Kwon DO were always taller than female students of WuShu (Chinese contemporary acrobatic MA))

  4. no but your flexability does

  5. I agree with the 1st poster !  There is no proof that training in MA  "stretches" the practioner

  6. height has nothing to do with anything other than your range of reach and your power. what you want in any type of martial arts is speed and endurance. power and strength help but will not help you if you have no speed or endurance. iv been doing hopkido (all of the martials arts in one). and we train with weights and we punch steel and concrete walls to make are bodies harder. iv been in hopkido  for 10 years and im yet to get black belt. we have to earn are belts through testing of endurance and speed.
