  1. It is usually just called "the moon", but is sometimes called Luna or Selene.

  2. Yes, Selene.

  3. Since it was the only moon we knew of until 400 years ago, its name is "The Moon" in English, and similarly in other languages: "la lune" in French, "der Mond" in German, etc.

"Luna" is a name used only by science fiction writers. You'll never ever see it in a scientific book or article.

  4. yes there is! other moons on other planets have too

but our moon here on earth is named Luna...Came from the Greek word "Luna" which means light...

    hope i'd contributed  ....

  5. I don't know.....

    But i call it white-y.

    I just say,"Hey White-y!"

    :p

  6. Yes, it's proper name in English is "the Moon".  Notice the capital letter.  If you write "moon" you mean any natural satellite.

  7. In English, we refer to our moon as the Moon with a capital M. the other most commonly used name is "Luna", however we all refer to it as the "Moon". This is because it was the first moon to be found. if it was the only one, then why give it a special name? why not just call it the moon? it wasn't until galaleo looked at jupiter that we discovered that other planets have moons. so as a result, all of their moons have names.

  8. Our Satellite is called the Moon. The Moon is actually the name of Earth's satellite but we call other planet's satellites "moon" also because we are used to it.

  9. The moon protects us from astroids, and hopefully anything bigger.  If heavy mass approaches the moon will gravitate to the source.    Just look at the  moon.

  10. Not officially.  We're pretty boring when giving names to things our own.  We live on the Earth. [Gee why didn't we just call it "dirt" or "rock" or something else as awe inspiring? :P] We have one Moon.

All the other planets, moons, stars, etc get great names but not our home planet.

And, to be grammatically correct, when writing about our Moon it gets capitalized, as does the Earth.

  11. The Moon's name is The Moon.

People sometimes use Luna for the sake of disambiguity. Officially, though, it's The Moon.

  12. Yeah its called Planet Cheezits!

  13. ya it's name is Luna

  14. In english, we simply refer it to the 'Moon' (capitalize M).

However, sometimes we call Luna (in latin) to separate it from other natural satellites. Selene is also another name that we used in reference to the Greek goddess Selene (kinda like how Mars is a name from the Greek god Mars).
