  1. Very funny.  American society encourages women to be good office workers, who are about as altruistic as sharks.

  2. i think so. by most people's standards today we're supposed to be strong and independent. we are supposed to go to work each Day and come home to cook and take care of kids. cleaning supposedly is also our job.

  3. Society expect men to be all giving, and let women be all taking.

  4. To a certain extent.   But times are different and those outmoded ideas are becoming a thing of the past....thankfully

  5. In the sense that women are expected by much of society to take care their children as well as their elderly parents and their ill family members-yes. In more traditional families-women are also expected to caretake their husbands and the other male members of their family or their husband's family.

Women are still often expected (even in "enlightened" relationships) to take time away from work to deal with child care issues or deal with what to do with children when they are ill or are expected to deal with family members when they need to be shuttled to doctor visits and the hospital for on-going treatment.

If men's occupations were not considered more important by both men and women because they make more money or because of their status, then it would create a more equal society where both men and women were equally expected to take care of children-ill children-parents-elderly relatives-ill or disabled parents. But until that time-women's careers will be derailed by the expectations that women's jobs "aren't as important" and that women are supposed to give into the pressure to caretake the world.
