Good question....how does one own property here if they are not legal though first of all?

It is nearly impossible for anyone  to immigrate to the U.S., and U.K. citizens are at the top of this list of impossibilities.  Unless you have millions of dollars and can qualify under a special visa for very rich investors, or have a parent, child, or spouse to sponsor you in the U.S., or have an extremely valuable and unusual work skill that a U.S. citizen cannot provide to an employer, the only way you may apply to immigrate is thru the Diversity Lottery Program.  You must register at least 2 years ahead of the lottery, there are millions who try each time. Then, if you are allowed to register, about one in every 60 is chosen  for further consideration...in other words...chances are extremely slim.  Now...the big problem is that U.K. citizens are not even allowed to apply under the Diversity Lottery program at this time because the U.K. is over their quota for this 5 year period.  You may be allowed to try in the future, but it is still a llong shot a very long, ccomplicatedand expensive process.  Most of the world wants to immigrate to the U.S....including a huge number of people from the U.K. and it simply is not possible.   50,000 people a yr are allowed to immigrate to the U.S. out of the millions who want to.  I think it would be far wiser to make another plan and set new goals.
