Question:

Does oxyclean make a good detergent on its own?

Right now we have a separate drainage system for the laundry but it has become clogged and it's backing up into the basement. It's not hooked into the septic tank, and this weekend my husband is moving the washer and dryer and he is switching it to drain directly into the septic tank.

As a result, he is now saying that the only detergent we can use is oxyclean because it's the best for the septic tank and he doesn't want to harm the septic system with tide or the regular detergents I use. I also use fabric softener and I'm guessing that's going to be out, but I have been meaning to get those blue dryer balls anyway.

Sorry to ramble on, but is oxyclean a good detergent on its own? I have used it before as a booster but never just its own detergent!

I can't just get regular green detergent because I have a H/E washer, unless someone can clue me in to a green detergent for H/E washers.

Thanks!

  1. I use reguar detergents and bleach in my washer, and I have not had any problems with the septic system in the past 8 years. Of course I only do 5 or 6 loads a week. As long as you treat a couple of times a year with Ridx or similar enzymes, and you aren't dumping gallons of bleach down there you should not have a problem.

  2. My husband used OxiClean once by itself because he didn't know any better.  I don't think it cleaned as well as with detergent.  I didn't know that Tide was harmful to your septic system.

  3. Seven Generation is green for H.E washiers.

I bought at big lots for 7.00

  4. oxyclean is not detergent.  You could look for a natural one or look into making your own.
