Does parent insurance coverage cover college age dependents once they get pregnant for maternity care? My insurance policy says that I'm covered until I'm 24, get married, or am not attending school full-time. We have maternity care on our insurance through Blue Cross. I'm under 24, not married, and am attending school full-time.

Will the insurance company cover the baby if I'm still 23 or will I need to get the baby their own insurance?

What are the requirments for coverage of pre-existing conditions when going onto a new insurance plan? I will be 23 soon and will be kicked off when I'm 24. If I'm still pregnant when this happens will my pre-existing pregnancy be covered?

  1. My mothers Blue Cross covered both my sisters (22 and 20) pregnancies and delivery. The baby may need their own insurance once it is born, but I believe if need be your parents can cover the baby for an additional charge.

Pregnancy is NOT considered a pre existing condition and cannot be by insurance companies.

  2. It shouldn't have to.

That coverage is for regular care, or emergencies like cancer.  Your decision to be pregnant is yours, and you should take responsibility for it, not your parents.

  3. Nope, your on your own.Shouldn't have gotten pregnant, it's gonna cost you a ton. Or you can get on medicare

  4. It will cover you AS a dependent, but will not cover YOUR dependents. Also, you have to consider that you will not be able to maintain your full-time student status after the baby is born.

  5. this will vary from plan to plan.  call your provider and get the scoop.

  6. The insurance will probably cover your baby for the first 30 days, but not after that. You will need to get your baby his/her own insurance policy.  It's really important to double check all of this. Call your insurance provider.

EDIT -- Your provider will likely cover your prenatal care/hospital costs.

  7. For specifics you would need your parent to call the insurance company to check the coverage.  Most companies (not all) will cover the dependent, but not the baby once it is born.  If you are living on your own you could certainly apply for medicaid assistance on top of your insurance (if it pays anything, and don't be shocked if you find out it doesn't pay for a pregnant dependent).  You should call around to find out about assistance programs because that is what they are there for.   And most insurance companies don't necessarily consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition, but I'm sure there are some that do.  Just speak to your parent about the coverage.  Good Luck..
