Does partner dancing condition women to be better followers in life?

Does partner dancing condition women to be better followers in life, or does a woman's laid back approach to life make her a good follower, or both, or neither?

The opposite is true of Men. Men who dance inevitably embrace the leadership role in life because men are always thinking and looking for ways to improve their leadership in the real world. We embrace the leadership we find in dance, because dance shows us how to be a better leader. We're always looking for ways to strengthen our place in the world. But do women embrace the role of follower more in life after she learns how well it works in dance? Or do women ignore the correlation between dance and real life? Or maybe you think that women are natural followers in life so they are natural followers in dance.

What do you think?

  1. for most dancers there is definitely a connection between dance and life but some female dancers have made a distinction between the two in order to have balance in their lives...

  2. That's an interesting question.  I don't think that dancing is the answer to that idea, of following and leading.  Many of the waltz and other dances were created hundreds of years ago, when men were the head of the house.

  3. I don't believe dancing has made me more of a 'follower' in life.  I'm easy-going when I don't have an opinion, but readily take the lead when there's something I want.

When a man takes the lead in swing-dancing or a waltz, it's a bit of a physical thrill . . . but it doesn't condition me to hope he'll order from the menu for me, too!  I still like to voice my opinions and lead where appropriate after a nice ballroom dance, where I very much prefer not to lead!

  4. there is a connection between real life and dancin

but i dont think that it affects women negatively

    its about trusting ur partner

    not about being subservient

  5. Hahaha, I am dominant everywhere except the dancefloor. Dancing is the only time I ever let anyone lead me, otherwise I prefer to be in control, so no, I don't think dancing does condition women to be better followers in life.

  6. Dance is merely an extension of self. Some people "dance around an answer. Some dance on the floor. A partner and make or break a dance. So I think it is the choice of who to dance with... would be more encompassing overall
