Does pasta give you energy? Is it an energy food?

  4. yes the carbohydrates in pasta provide long lasting energy,not just a short burst of energy like sugar. that's why they tell you to eat a big bowl of spaghetti before a marathon or whatever, although im not sure i'd do that .. lol. :P

  9. Nope it makes you more heavy. It gives you carbohydrates and thats not good. Try baked potatoes or protein bars.

Pasta is full of a nutrient known as carbohydrates which your body converts into energy.  However, it won't give you energy right away.  Most endurance athletes (marathoners, triathletes) will load up on carbohydrates (pasta) the night before a race.  It takes a while for the body to break it all down.

    There's a lot of prejudice and misinformation out there about pasta and carbs lately but athletes have been using pasta as energy food for eons and I would trust that simple fact long before I'm going to trust fad diets.

  14. yes but not quickly.  the carbs and long chains that take w while to break down and release the stored energy.  for quick energy, look to orange juice
