The pencil lead in my office regularly breaks. Can the lead get old? Should we limit how much we buy?

  1. The shelf life of a pencil is until someone takes it home.

  2. try not to push down on the pencil so hard and it may not break. Pencil lead is graphite, so it does not degrade.

  3. pencils arent made out of lead any more

and no pencils dont really have a shelf life

however they do have a quality

try getting a better quality pencil

  4. That isn't lead, it's "Graphite". Lead is what was used in the paint on pencils and I don't believe graphite has shelf life.

  5. Graphite does not "expire".

I'd suggest buying different type pencils or different thickness leads (for mech. pencils)
