  1. Perugia is a beautiful city.  offers great vistas.  you can see Assisi in the distance its only a little noisy in the ceneter of town around peak times. otherwise its kinda quiet.  alot of people there speak english.  alot of stores in town  and not far away is a shopping mall.

  2. It would be hard to go wrong in either the region of Abruzzo or the city of Perugia both have great scenery, interesting cultural events, relative quiet (all of Italy has tourists), and great food.

Personally, I like the Umbria Jazz Fest  and the Eurochocolate Festival in Perugia. The chocolate sculpture contest is worth the trip by itself. The old underground city in Perugia is interesting. The views from the top of the city are spectacular - you can see Assisi. I've spent more time in Perugia since it's easier to get to from where I live in northern Italy.

L'Aquila has Jazz too though and the International Guitar festival ... and Abruzzo has the Adriatic coast.

  3. perugia isn't in the abruzzo region and it's a very important city for university. you can find a lot of colleges and students there...so i dont' really know how quite it would be for you. maybe you want to try with toscany , in the Arezzo area, in the countryside. abruzzo is nice but kinda cold in winter time. i would suggest L'aquila city even though as i said it will be pretty cold soon. probably the coldest city in italy ^_^ i hope it helped
