  1. I brought my friend's Yorkie there and they did an excellent job.  The only think I would be concerned about is not bringing him the Petsmart until he is FULLY vaccinated.  I knew someone who brought their pup in after only 1 set of shots and evidently the pup was very sick.  Also when their young their skin is sensitive.  I would wait until the pup was 3 or 4 month old before I took him there.  Ask your Vet also.

  2. not that ive seen. our gaint schnauzer had a few burs in her legs n they shaved her whole body bald!!!!!! she already had a nice hair cut from a lady down the street who does it but she wasnt home. if we did it she'd lay on her back n paw at us n hide.

  3. I get my maltese done at Petsmart and I love them. When you go in they will ask you what it is you want and just simply tell them and describe it. They are good they will do just as you wish.

  4. Not sur about Petco, I would try Petsmart. It all comes down to the individual groomer, not the establishment. I can tell you that Petsmart groomers ALL go to school to learn their craft, and that they are typically a very clean establishment. The good news is that both establishments should have big windows where you can observe other dogs being cut. So go and look, if you see a particular groomer who is doing a great job, book an appointment with him/her.

I kind of take offence to the the one poster who said that the staff look young. So what? I'm young, and I look years younger than I am. I am completely devoted to my chosen craft of dog grooming. It is my career, and I go far above and beyond what many of the older groomers will do. I volunteer in shelters, gone for additional training, attend grooming expos &competitions and am starting to groom/handle my own dogs in conformation come spring. Grooming is a physically demanding job, that may be why you dont see a lot of 'older' groomers

  5. Petsmart is the best place.....

  6. Hi there , I am a mom of 4 lhasa aphsos and 2 teenage sons. My pups are very spoiled and are everything to me. (so are my boys, but there teenagers, and like to be with there friends alot) I personally would never take my dogs to petsmart/petco.  have  u ever been in there and watched how they cut and care for the dogs? I dont know what the eexperienceis for them to work there but i hhaven'tbeen real happy when i have been at the store and watched them from afar and they are talking on the phone and the pup is shaking. I also see some pretty young looking people cutting the dogs hair. I am real protective like i said, so i personally take mine to a private shop, so my dogs can be familiar each time they have to go. This is just my opinion. good luck

  7. You must try Pet smart, stay away from Petco. I had a very bad experience with them, my Guinea pig was a male when they said HE was a FEMALE so I put him in the cage with my other sisters FEMALE Guinea pig and they had 2 litters of babies, because we didn't separate them quick enough!!!! Petsmart is a good place for grooming  my aunt takes her dog there all the time, she never goes anywhere else.

  8. Petco and petsmart are not very good places for specific haircuts. They typically can shave and hack away at the dogs hair...try a groomer who has graduated from grooming school. Shop around at local grooming shops, ask them if they are professionally trained. If they are, I assure you they can do a teddy bear cut.

  9. I've seen good grooms come out of both stores. The key is finding a good groomer who is experienced with the type of cut you are looking for.

I've found PetSmart to be more receptive of instructions and listen a bit better to my desires. When you go in ask to book with the salon manager, who will likely have the most experience. If you want to stay and watch for a few minutes until you are comfortable, they encourage you to do so.

Both stores do teddy bear cuts.

  10. its not really the shop that does good or bad haircuts its the groomers. and if you mind me saying dogs aren't Barbie's  you can dress up, give them a haircut that goes with its breed

  11. I brought my dog to petsmart. He fell in love with the groomers to the point he cried when we were leaving. And they did a good job. They were really polite and they asked how long i want his coat to be, and i told him, like the dog in the picture, and they did it just the way i wanted it. It's not really the company, just the groomers you get.

  12. Probably not as well as a local groomer, but if it looks terrible, its only hair, it will grow back, and then find a different place to take him.
