  1. Alot of detergents contain phosphates.  Check the labels before buying.  A small amout is actually good for plants.


  2. phosphate is good for plant growth and they need a fair amount of it... that is why phosphates in dtergents are considered bad as if they get into a stream or lake they spur algel bloom and can block the sun in the water as well as smoother fish

  3. Phosphates are notoriously toxic for African and Australian plants that grow in slightly to strongly acid soils.
