  1. it depends if you do it right. Always wear toe pads and tights to reduce blisters on your joints in your feet.

if you have broken your ankles any time lately, i would be extremely careful.when your break your ankle, the muscles will not be as strong as before and might take a while before they get back into shape. a past broken ankle is a big hazard for breaking it again.

if your ankles or calves are sore after taking pointe, (which  99.9% will happen) but if it gets increasingly worse and i mean really worse, ice your ankles  and calves afterward. this could mean you have damaged in your calves or ankles (like pulled muscles and shinsplints) but it is pretty hard to do that all at once.

if you dance on dead shoes (when their mushy and soft on the shank and box) that could also ruin your ankles. never ever ever dance on dead shoes. one of my friends were dancing in dead shoes with no toepads and her one toe actually started to bleed under the pressure and she didn't take her shoes of till the end of class and she had to go to the ER because of all the pressure she put on her toes. it wasn't good and could dance for a while.

i probably just made you not want to dance at all, but these are all sideffects that aren't that common and don't occur to everyone

  2. Yes it can affet your feet...but if you love it you can manage the pain.

    Dance takes pain

  3. It certainly makes them uglier, I've got bruises, blisters and scars to show for it.

  4. I've been on point for a while now, and here's what I've noticed point has done to my feet:

-My toes (except the big one) have started to "curl-in" as if I'm scrunching them up, but I'm not!

-My foot has become a bit bonier

-My foot hasn't really grown much since I started.

But just remember, everyone's feet take differently to point. I know girl's who's feet look disgusting and have all ingrown toenails. But I also know girl's who's feet really don't look any different from when they started. It really depends on how early you start (because you're foot bones could still be shaping and growing), and how hard you train.

  5. It makes them stop growing.

  6. It makes them feel worse, look more disgusting, and yes... occasionally bloody. But no it doesn't ruin your feet it just leaves them scarred.

  7. i think it depends on your feet.

this is going to be year number 4 for me and the only thing with my feet is my bunions grew. i dont get blisters or corns. my feet dont bleed. they burn sometimes and become numb occansionally but nothing major...or minor for that matter. keep your toenails at a reasonable length and dont dance without toe pads unless you can handle it.

  8. It can after a prolonged period of time but thats why you put like jelly pad things over your toes to protect them i mean like i do it and my feet are fine but i have more brusies on my feet you just have to make shure you don't do it for hours on end

  9. Noooo!!!!! Not unless u do it correctly. If u follow what ur pointe teacher tells u to do, u will be fine. I am in my second year of pointe and all that happens is some blisters on my toes. That could because at my dance school we rnt allowed to wear any pads..... only duct tape. :)

  10. You will be fine as long as you get the right shoes! get them professionally fitted and you should ask in the shop for a second opinion!  then show the shoes to your dance teacher before you use them to make sure they are right!

also make sure you have toe pads, my first pair didnt and i have scars all over my feet from blisters and stuff...its not nice!

also take care of your feet. use foot lotion and soak your feet every now and then. you have to be more careful that the average person with your feet if you are on pointe

    hope this helps :D x
