I think that this is a myth and it will not make much difference to heat displacement.

I just got the red rings and I barely play my xbox for like 2 hours every 2 days.

It has nothing to do with the the way you stand it or play it.

Its the hardware, they released the xbox to early to meet demand, they didn't check over the hardware which contained a bug.

It will not make any difference, it is designed to be placed in both positions , and if you checked the Base of the 360 you are going to fine some Pads to put the 360 on both sides, and the lights in front of the console changes it's position with changing the 360 position
