Does quickitme movies have to be converted so i can burn and watch them on my home dvd ?

i have a dvd burner..and i have a quicktime movie i wanna burn. do i need a convertor ? cuz i been trying to burn some movies and they just wont play unless the copyright laws are kicking into gear?
