Does "AVG Antivirus free" actually work?

I just dowloaded and its scannning. Its been scanning for almost 7 minutes, should it be scanning that long?

Yeah nothing is wrong.  I use it and it has worked well so far.  No problems with computer.

The time for an antivirus scan depends on the amount of files it needs to do. On average you should expect anywhere between 30mins - 2 hours. So taking 7 minutes is nothing to worry about.

If yr anti virus is updated ,Yes it works well but works only 90% (it can't detect or remove some viruses and spyware)

No,it doesn't.

I work security (computers) for a living,and AVG is not the worst antivirus out there,but the free version has no kind of firewall,and the antivirus is completely and utterly horrible.

People thinks it works because it finds things--but it doesn't find everything.

I've tested it myself,and it's prone to leave malware unattended.It may find keyloggers and backdoors,but some viruses and most spyware slips right by it.It is also missing a vital thing called a "heuristics scan" which means hat it can miss tons and tons of things easily.

I HAVE AVG ON ONE OF MY COMPUTERS AND IT DOES HAVE GOOD PROTECTION AND DETECTION QUALITIES SORRY TO SAY THE SCANNER ON THE NEW VERSION IS SUPER SLOW BUT ITS FREE AND I CAN LIVE WITH THAT.THERE ARE OTHER FREE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS LIKE ANTI-VIR AND AVAST WHICH ARE JUST AS GOOD.THE REASON WHY ITS FREE I SUPPOSE IS THAT THERE ARE STILL GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DONT WANT TO s***w CONSUMERS WITH BIG BLOATED SECURITY SUITES WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES AND THE HIGH PRICES FOR THE LICENSES.THESE FREE PROGRAMS RUN JUST ABOUT AS GOOD AS THE PAY ONES DO.AND YES,YOUR SCAN TIME DEPENDS ON HOW MANY FILES YOU HAVE ON THE PC.I SCANNED WITH AVG LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS JUST OVER 1HOUR 45 MIN.IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO FINISH BUT ITS DOING ITS JOB.JUST BE PATIENT AND IT WILL FINISH.

I use AVG on three different computers the time factor is determined by the number of files that need to be scanned sometimes one of my scans go for an hour and a 1/2

Yes it works. I have never had a problem since I've had it. Scans take a while because they are searching all your files for anything potentially harmful. Let it be it takes it over an hour to do a complete scan on my computer.

Yes, AVG free does work and it is a good security software. They want you to try the free version and then buy the paid version which has more features.

What are the threats? If it says there are malware/viruses/spyware/ whatever on your computer I suggest you download and run Superantispyware free and Malwarebytes Antimalware free.

any scanning takes long. AVG works, my brother say its most recommended as a free anti-virus. however, remmeber it IS only anti-virus.. of u would need something else for spyware and phishing stuff.

it's free because u only get SOME of the features.. if u wanted the complete package, u just pay.. and u could get da spyware protection, internet safety, etc..

ofcourse it will take longer depending on your hardware configuration and drives that u selected to scan. if u have huge files in computer, it will take long. let it finish. make sure that the avg is fully updated.
