Does "dead" really mean DEAD? (as in "no spirit)?

OK...I just thought of this . (I know I'll get thumbs down because some will say it belongs in R&S..but it applies to paranormal too) This just came into my head...In the Bible it says Jesus is coming back to judge the living and the dead. So..if that's true..how can the dead be dead in spirit?

  1. >mythology? no your not dead, your body dies, your soul goes on. That is, unless your a soulless zombie like most atheists would have you believe. LOL, well informed info depends on the sorce of the info, if your an atheist, the info is great, if your religious, the info is like an insult to someones intelligence.edit: those who do not accept those concepts are not Christians.

  2. There is a concept in Christianity (one of the many contradictory ones) that when people die they will remain dead until such time as Christ returns and resurrects their souls for judgment and only then will the worthy be admitted to heaven. Of course this also applies to the living.

Many Christians today do not accept this concept.

  3. It all depends on what you believe in.

  4. If PD was upset by getting 'thumbs down' he would stop posting logical, well informed answers on this forum.

Not sure what you are asking in your question, I thought Christians believed the spirit continued existing after death.

  5. no ... i dont think so.. i believe the dead do still have their souls.. i think dead means no longer present in the physical form..as i said earlier.. i still do beleive that the soul of my dog sofi still visits me every once in a while.. a psychic family friend of ours said that once we die, our soul goes to another planet in another universe... she gave me the name of the planet where sofi is.. it was p.. something.. i dont know how true this is.. but its what she said..

and denie, that friend of ours' name is denise.. how cool!

  6. I am pretty sure he is refering to the physically dead. There is a distinction in the bible between physical and spiritual death.

One of my favorite verse is Matthew 10:28.

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in h**l."

edit: For the record, I believe strongly in the Bible, and do not believe that Human souls roam the earth.

  7. Since you referenced the bible...in that case I believe that is letting those who read that passage know that when Jesus returns, there will still be living persons on the earth that he intends to judge just as he will the dead.

Now to answer the question, there is no death.  We use the term death, but it is actually a transition really.  Our bodies are vessels and were never meant to keep going forever.  Our spirit lives on forever.

  8. i believe its only the end of your physical body, i think your spirit moves on to where ever you believe it goes

  9. that's a good question

....because when you die...supposedly your body only dies but your spirit or soul still lives after death.

maybe that passage means that when Jesus comes back that he will judge the people who are still living and judge the people who passed over?

  10. Giving credence to Biblical passages requires a person to buy into the mythology of the Judeo-Christian tradition.  You must have faith in order for it to be true to you.  If you do not take it at face value and you begin to dissect it you are going to find all sorts of holes in the Biblical narrative and the kind of world that allows such a narrative to be true.

EDIT: Denie,  I know you aren't giving me thumbs down.  I try to answer in a fair and objective manner, but some people disagree with what I have to say.  That's why they give me the thumbs down.  I know it probably isn't anything personal. :-)

  11. when you die, every system in your body shuts down, including your brain which gives us a sense of self. Nothing happens after that. Dead=no life. you feel as if you did before you were born. I think.....
