Question:

Does "equality" mean women should get paid equally, even for inferior work?

I'm not suggesting or implying anything by this, just asking the question to better see if we're all on the same page. I dunno... it seems "equality" is only achieved if women make exactly as much as a man regardless of the particulars- you know, how much experience, level of education, dedication to the job (not leaving early to get pickup little Taylor from soccer practice), how much money the employee generates for the company. You know, small details like those. Of course PAY DISCRIMINATION is blatantly ILLEGAL already, so any real life issue should be brought to a city law official immediately, but we're just going thru this for fun's sake. Where they come up with those stats of women .77/ men 1.00 I haven't the fogus idea. But let's assume the federal and state governments have turned their heads on this one and only you few women in the Y!A section are keen enough to notice this injustice. How do you feel?

  3. To most of us on salary - we are paid to do a job - it doesn't matter how much time it takes us- 30 hours one week and 50 the next.    Sorry to burst your bubble but women produce more than men.

We here in US seem to be fascinated by time spent working- Germans produce more per person than Americans and they get 6 weeks vacation. Maybe because they are rested they can focus.

EDIT:  As for the lifeguard situation.  Sorry but because they have LOCKER rooms there have to be female lifeguards on staff at all times.    You can't send a male into the female locker room or vice versa.

  4. I think that people who hold the same position should get the same pay. If one is doing inferior work, then that person needs to be replaced. If someone is less "qualified", in terms of experience and education, then perhaps they should not have been hired in the first place. If you hire someone to fulfill a certain position, then they should be paid the same as the other people who hold the same position. If you don't think they're worth it, then hire someone who is.

  5. The only fair pay is what you agree to sign up for. Is it fair a doctor who safe lifes makes vastly less than, say Kobe Bryant ? Who gives a d**n, its what they both signed up for, if the doctor doesnt like it he can try to get Kobes job or ask for more money.

  6. you are correct. I don't dont think we should have that whole title 9 bull anywho. I mean heres a small story, its a little different but the same idea.

Lets start with the people of this story

    Me -

Lifeguard  for 2 years, age 15 and 16, now 17. (2 years experience)

My references were a different pool which said i was one of these best workers, others my Varicity Swim team Coaches which said if they had to hire anyone it would of been me(mind you i swim at this pool i would be working out)

After the interview the guy said, Welcome aboard, you have job (EXACT WORDS)  They also said they needed full time people and thats what i was going for, AND IM MALE bty

    This girl -

Worked a publix for for little while, so no job that needs "skills" or specialty training for a job like lifeguarding

She literary got her lifeguarding license the MONTH before

so NO experience (and i know this girl she is/was (graduated) my friend)

Im sure she had the same references as me, aside from my last job because she is/was on the swim team too.

    .

    .

but SHE got the job because they needed the Women quote bull c**p, which is what they said when i asked why i didn't  get the job, SO i know its why.

am i mad  at her, nahh, but its annoying.

(the "male slots" where all taken by returning lifeguards)

so because of the women qoute in the workforce, a more qualified person(me) is out of that job, lucky i found a better one tho for me.

  7. No. Equality means getting paid equally for EQUAL work, whether the worker is a man or a woman.

  8. yessir.

  9. These days, a woman should get paid more, because it seems like the women are the only responsible people left. We are raising the children by ourselves and we are the ones who make sure the bills get paid. If men would step up and quit being wimps by bailing out then maybe we wouldn't need equality.

  10. No. Her work should be of roughly the same quality as that of her male counterpart. The 77/100 stat is just an average.

  11. Not if inferior work is being defined by a male

  12. Well nobody seems to have ever questioned the matter of men doing inferior work and getting paid for it. I've worked with plenty of lazy and incompetent men.

I think we have all worked with people who are not good employees. In most cases they seem to survive in the workplace; maybe by using political and social skills to ingratiate themselves with others.

  13. Equality has a lot more to do then the fair pay plan.  No women do not want to get paid the same as man even if its inferior work; but we also don't want to be the better worker getting paid less cause we are a women. In my situation I have worked in administration and with my current employer some idiot man is getting paid more.  I am the one who went to school for it, I am the one dedicated to the job, there are a lot of men and women at my work that leave early for their kids (I currently don't have any), I save the company more then he brings in, I have more experience in the field and I found out that I make less then him.  When I questioned my boss I was told it was none of my business but the male worker shouldn't have left his pay stub in the copier. I hate that I have worked so hard and I get paid less then a half-witted man and trust me this idiot has dropped paper at a mailing house and asked them to print.  The owner laughed at him so hard. Why have I not gone and done anything about it?  I just don't feel that I would win or that it even matters.  I feel that everyone should know each others pay because when we keep it a secret we create a hostile environment.

  14. No. "equality" means women and men should be equally assessed regarding the value of the work rendererd to fix the pay.  the "equality" demanded is only on the quality called "gender" of the person and not on the quality of work rendered by that person.

If the work is inferior, let the pay be inferior as well.  But one should not assume if the gender is "female", work is "inferior" and hence pay should also be less.

I am male and anti-feminist.  But facts remain facts and there is no use in having distorted views on everything.

  15. I feel like you dont respect women as much as you should. A women can do any job a man can do just as good if not better.  Women and men can have the same education, job dedication and experience.   And women wouldnt havent have to leave early from work to get little taylor from soccor if little taylor had a carring father who actually helped pick him up sometimes so mommy wouldnt always have too. .

  16. Companies are legally required to establish pay ranges for each job type.  A man and a woman can hold positions within the same job type, but receive different levels of pay.  And this should be based upon seniority and output or productivity.  If one is producing significantly more than the other, it is only right that they earn more.  And if one is required to have more time off (for the sake of children), then it is only right that they earn less.  The company is interested in profitability - and will pay more to those who are contributing more to that profitability.  THAT IS FAIR AND EQUITABLE!

  17. news flash - men contribute just as much inferior work as women - and you need look no further than at our own  government
