Does "life" work against entropy?

Life forms are highly ordered systems. Are they the result of entropy or do these systems work against it?

  1. In thermodynamics, entropy represents the amount of energy in a system that is no longer available for doing work. It increases as all matter and energy in the universe ultimately degrades to a state of inert uniformity.

    In other words, everything eventually wears out and comes to an end.


  2. the earth is not an isolated system. we get energy from the sun. life neither contradicts, nor is the result of, entropy

  3. Yes, life requires things to be very orderly, entropy is the natural trend for disorder.  The proof is that life requires the consumption of energy.
