Does rationing healthcare seem like a good idea?

Universal healthcare is basically the government deciding who lives and who dies. The way the U.S. government runs things I don't want them in total control of my health care do you?

  1. Healthcare is already rationed based on wealth. Universal access to healthcare on the other hand is the opposite of rationing. SInce everyone pays into the system, then there is more money to cover the costs of everyone getting treatment.

And the government isn't trying to limit your medical choices, if universal healthcare is proposed, it's unlikely to be a plan that forces you see particular doctors. It's a moot point though, as it's only universal health insurance coverage which is currently being proposed in the US anyway.

  2. Well I have medicade and that's kinda like universal health care and here's the kicker. I have to wait 1 week to have a check up lol just a simple check up that takes about 5 minutes.

Why? Well of course everyone wants free treatment you think I was the only one smart enough to apply for it? If you want health care then be prepared to wait at the back of the line!

Oh yeah and my dentist apointment was scheduled 2 months in advance. Also a check up as well LOL!

  3. It must be nice to speak without worrying about whether you have the facts right or not.

We already ration healthcare in the USA.  It's a limited resource.  If you have money, you get care.  If you're poor, you don't get care.  Compared to that mess, yes, I'd take government oversight instead.  Perhaps people could actually get care based on the extent of their need?

  4. Healthcare should be available to those who can afford it.  No job, no income, no insurance, you better take a free CPR course.

  5. what? I agree that universal healthcare isn't a system that'd work properly work for the USA, but it is by no means "basically the government deciding who lives and who dies". So I'm not really sure what to make of your question...
