  1. as time moves forwar, and hardware gets faster and faster, apps are written to utilize that speed.

With a pc, you could just upgrade a part at a time to keep up. But with laptops you can really only upgrade the ram and harddrive.

After 2 years, you should evaluate what you use the laptop for...if it's for simple office and websurfing, maybe a reinstall of windows will be good.

But if it's an older p4 or athlonxp or similar chip, time to think about a new laptop.

  2. It shouldn't slow it down but since its old, that may be the problem. Time will slow it besides computer get faster every 2 years. Reinstall the OS using your recovery discs and make sure you download every update for it.

  3. Reformatting many times over will not cause it to run slower.  However, over time applications tend to require more resources so your computer will seem to run slower.

It's not that your computer is running slower after a format now then it did before, it's that the applications are more demanding.

Formatting will still help to remove any bloat that's on the computer and will keep it running in tip-top performance.  Don't forget to update your firmware!
