Does religion still a major influence in the

Portuguese government?

Such it was during the medieval times?

No.

I can't have ANY influence since the Constitution of Portugal and all the european countries declares that is must be a clear separation between religion and state.

That's why it's forbidden in ANY european country to exist such a thing as an "official" religion. No religion can be above any other.

But of course the majority of the portuguese people are catholics.

NO!  My grandpa is from Lisboa and things have changed immensely after the 2ND great war, Portugal is a EU member, very proactive form of Gov, besides Catholicism is on it's way down, they don't have as much power as before (medieval times)

quite the opposite: we are very tolerant towards other religions...
