  1. My Grams was a big fan of taking soap out of the wrappers or boxes they can in and setting them in the linen closet on a shelf.  I noticed her Ivory bars always lasted way longer than mine (mine would last maybe a week and hers would last for WEEKS!) and she said it was because she let them sit out and dry in the linen closet.  I know this, I always LOVED opening her linen closet and getting something out, as it smelled so good and all the towels and linens smelled nice too.  So, from what I have seen and observed on my own, I believe it does harden the soap and removes some of the moisture in the bar that makes it last longer and to boot, the smell is nice too!  So in essences you are getting a much longer lasting product and great smelling towels and sheets.  I miss my Grams!  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  2. It may be true. Moisture is the enemy of soap, in the sense that water will dissolve a bar left in it. When you take a bar out of the package, some of the moisture in it evaporates, making the bar slightly harder (dryer), which may make it last longer since it will take a while for water to penetrate when you use it. But the best way to make soap last longer is to not leave it where it is constantly in water or left wet.
