Hi...

I once read somewhere that if you ride a bike it actually makes your thighs fatter, rather than helping you loose weight.

Is this true?

Thanks.

  1. Riding a bicycle is great for the legs…they look fantastic on women who ride.

To get big bulky man legs you need to lift heavy weight and taking steroids does not hurt.

Riding a bicycle is nothing like that. Riding a bicycle produced tone strong defined legs. Its like using low light weights for hours.

One thing that many forget is to stretch after riding. This will help your muscles grow longer and better. You will also loose flexibility if you never stretch and bike a lot.

Lets put it this way. Ive never seen a woman that rides who i thought should stop because they where too tone.

  2. yours maybe,not mine.

  3. It will firm up your thighs. Like with any excercise, do your cardio, limit you food intake and cycling will help you lose weight. If you do it hardcore then you will have rockhard thighs. Did you check out the gold medal female German mtn. biker. That was hard.

  4. fatter, no.  but bigger yes.  when i started biking, my quads much became more developed and muscular and i had to up a size in jeans.

if you keep your rpms high and ride in the big ring less, you will be more toned than musclar.  try to use cardio more than power.

  5. judge for yourself:

  6. Bigger, maybe, if you work out really hard.  Fatter, never, no way!  Cycling, combined with a sensible level of caloric intake, will burn fat and make you thinner and leaner, especially your legs.

If you ride regularly your legs will get leaner (thinner) all around.  If you reach world class level your musculature will cause them to be larger, assuming that is the normal distribution of your muscle mass.

  7. I ride 40-60 miles a day, everyday. I've been doing this for the past 10 yrs. I'm 5'10, 175lbs and each of my thighs are 31" around at the hip. Your legs won't get "fatter" but they will definitely get more muscular.
