Does roosters regrow thier spurs if they break them completly off?

my rooster i let free range tried to fight with a rooster i had in a pen and broke his spurs completly off his legs on the pen will they grow back.He bleed alot but is doing ok now.

  1. Yes, they will grow back, just like our toenails. Chickens need intensive care when letting to run wild in urban areas, because if left unattended, it will either become a threat to passer-bys or a prey to meat-loving animals such as dogs.


  2. wow......sounds painful. they will probably grow back but it will take a long time. in the meanwhile while the injuries are healing check on the bird every day and make sure its not getting infected. if the birds tame, then you should clean it out about every other day with this medicated water stuff you can get at walmart. its like a really strong cut cleaner but it feels like just water. your feathered friend could get a really nasty infection.

  3. Spurs are alot like their toenails, and most likely will grow back, but slowly.  It takes awhile for a mature rooster to develop a large set of spurs, so he may take quite awhile for regrowth.

    Look at the bright side - if he's not that friendly, he's managed to disarm himself!
