  1. Whatever you do, do NOT use ANY kind of powder. For starters, it ruins felt so no serious pool player would even suggest such a ludicrous act.

Think about what powder would be doing. Your hands are already sweating so the powder will be getting wet. Granted, it's absorbing the moisture and is turning into a fine past in the process. You can use your imagination as to what happens after that.

Johnny is probably the closest with his answer. I clean the shaft of my cue by periodically using 2000 grit sand paper on it. It doesn't hurt the wood and if you've been playing with your cue for any length of time the factory finish has probably long been worn down as to being of little or no use.

I just don't recommend using any kind of powders, chemicals, or cleaning products on your cue.

  2. Superficially, yes....but ultimately......NO.

Dollar bills are quite filthy and will only rub more dirt and grime into your cue stick.

Use a dry towel and a small amount of rubbing alcohol to remove the dirt, chalk, grime, and sweat from your cue.

WASH YOUR HANDS with soap and water. Dry your hands thoroughly.

Do NOT use any talc or "cone" hand chalk ----it only makes your hands sweat more and makes your cue stick stickier, and wreaks havoc on the balls, table cloth (felt), and your hands.

Keep your hands clean and your pool cue clean. Keep a clean dry towel handy, to wipe any moisture off your cue and your hands throughout your session(s).

Use a small DRY piece of a green Scotch Brite pad, to remove debris from your cue. You can also invest under 10.00 in a "McMagic" 7500 grit-paper kit (4 pieces ----variable grit). McDermott makes this GREAT product. It's washable (soap and water) and lasts for years. It'll keep your cue stick shaft incredibly silky smooth and clean. I swear by this product (nothing more than super durable 7500 grit micro-paper that can be used over and over for many years---NO liquids!

For the best price, call McDermott toll free for info: 1-800-666-2283

    Good luck, pool player!
