I am asking bcoz the verse "slay whereever you find them" etc are related to war that was going on..So we can't take them out of context and explain..

Does the same,i mean historical context, hold true for the rest of Quran?

  1. If a prophet  goes around nipping people in the backside, and the person comes forward to ask him why he started it, but the prophet uses his sword to stop them from questioning him, and then says it was for self defence?

    Is this self defence?

  2. Not "historical" context...but it must remain in context.

Its saying if you are attacked... you are commanded to fight back......try to find peace a peaceful resolution first....but if you can't.....you can go on the offensive against the attackers.

Its still a defensive war, you were attacked first.........but if you only defend against attacks...well they will keep attacking you....gotta end the problem.

  3. Nimmy chapter 9 haunting you.

History is not static, it is dynamic and cyclic. So it applies to the same conditions, whenever such a situation happens.

  4. It's the rule for any wars against Islam ......

  5. Well this verse only applies when Muslims are attacked first. So yeah I guess it does still apply. Remember the Quran is a guide for all time.

  6. I believe a couple of verses clarify the subject:

022.039 To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to fight), because they are wronged;- and verily, Allah is most powerful for their aid;-

022.040 (They are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right,- (for no cause) except  that they say, "our Lord is Allah". Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly aid those who aid his (cause);- for verily Allah is full of Strength, Exalted in Might, (able to enforce His Will).

    Al-Qur'an, 022.039-040 (Al-Hajj [The Pilgrimage])

    And also:

002.190 Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.

    Al-Qur'an, 002.190 (Al-Baqara [The Cow])

Some verses reveal their meanings by their time and place of revelation (Asbabun-Nuzul).

  7. Answer from Holy Quran:

2:190 AND fight in God's cause against those WHO WAGE WAR AGAINST you, but do not commit aggression-for, verily, God does not love aggressors.
