Is this because of over exertion, and requires me to take a proper slow down process after running ?

  1. Theoretically it could. When your body is faced with stressors, such as running, the sympathetic nervous system becomes more active and the parasympathetic nervous system becomes less active. The sympathetic system is thought as the fight or flight systems while the parasympathetic system is the rest and digest system. So by trying to go sleep right after a run could be difficult since your body’s sympathetic nervous system still has a stronger influence over your body than the parasympathetic nervous system thus making it hard for your body to rest.

  2. only depends on the person,  i sleep better even when i workout till 9 oclock at night and gotta sleep an hour later. sometimes i wanna sleep in the car on the way home.

magnesium supplementation is a great way to get rid of insomnia.

  3. It does happen to some people, if you over do it you will be restless that night.  I have RLS and sleep better if I run before bed.  Make sure to get a good long cool down and stretch well after running to minimize the sleeplessness.

  4. I have noticed I have trouble sleeping if I run in the evening. But just changing my running time makes a big difference (like I run i the afternoon instead).
